Yet, with the jam-packed Marvel Studios' schedule and the work ahead of Gunn to alter the DC Universe's course, there's no time. It's clear that Kevin Feige and James Gunn have a good relationship, and if anyone could pull it off, it's them. Instead of Superman and Spider-Man duking it out on the top of the Empire State Building, it'd be David Zaslav and Bob Iger wrestling around the Griffiths Park Observatory dome. A movie would be even more difficult with all the producers and, even worse, studio executives who aren't in the creative arts. They had to appear in the same number of panels. Each company's heroes couldn't get over on the others. But the Arrowverse got there first and showed the movie side how to use it most effectively.Comics crossovers happened in the past, but each time they did, the editors at Marvel and DC fought more than the heroes and the rogues. Studios drooling over the idea of a Fast and the Furious crossover with Transformers or something else can use multiverses to pull it off. Yet, it featured 'universes' based on the Disney film Ratatouille and one where Michelle Yeoh plays herself. Everything Everywhere All At Once, which won the most awards, is an original story. Studios are now embracing the multiverse in a big way because of its potential for crossover and nostalgia. Not just fans of the Arrowverse, but fans of DC's history. Yet, the producers were still able to make room in the budget to bring in characters who meant a lot to fans. The event features a lot of computer-generated visual effects sequences, which are very costly, even for TV. The Russo Brothers had years to make their big crossover movies, but the Arrowverse had to shoot Crisis On Infinite Earths while concurrently producing six separate series, filming in two countries. The budget for Crisis on Infinite Earths is not known publicly, but it's probably less than a tenth of Avengers: Endgame's $350 million-plus cost. Even with a supersized runtime, The Flash movie barely has the time to match it. The suite of teenage morality plays starring superheroes created the best celebration of DC's 50-plus years of live-action storytelling to date. If Crisis on Infinite Earths didn't inspire the studios to embrace their pasts, it at least clued the fans into the idea that such a crossover is possible. Fans expect characters from other films outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe to appear in Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Secret War. In a way, this predicted what DC Studios, Sony and Marvel Studios have done to unite their franchises. Burt Ward from the 1966 Batman series appeared to kick off the series by shouting, "Holy red skies of death!" Robert Wuhl from 1989's Batman appeared, along with characters from big series like Smallville and gems like 2002's Birds of Prey. Using this concept, the group of storytellers led by Marc Guggenheim made Crisis On Infinite Earths a celebration of all live-action DC storytelling. The titular crisis was the erasure of the multiverse, leaving behind one single continuity, though eventually, DC retconned that. In the 1980s, DC Comics' continuity was a mess, with various versions of characters living on different Earths.
